CUSCRS is a student-led organisation whose aim is to raise the profile of, and increase accessibility to, academic research. The Society was established in 2009 and awarded a prestigious INSPIRE grant in 2012; funds were matched equally by the University of Cambridge’s Clinical School and CATO, and partially by Athena Swan.
As a direct result of these contributions, CUSCRS now provides a programme of events which add an ‘academic focus’ to the student calendar – both pre-clinical and clinical students are encouraged to attend. These events form part of the Cambridge Academic Apprenticeship (CAA – please see the ‘INSPIRE’ tab for more information); designed to encourage all students to consider an academic career.
For students who successfully complete a body of work, there are opportunities to present findings at our annual INSPIRE research conference, compete for research prizes and secure Travel Funds to present at international meetings.
CUSCRS is supported by leading Clinical Academics at the University and to date has hosted lectures by a number of world-renowned speakers; Sir Alec Jeffreys, Sir Bruce Ponder, Professor Sir David Weatherall and Professor Sir Roy Calne to name but a few.
